Aqua Kaua‘i Beach Resort undergoes extensive food and beverage makeovers

July 30, 2013
Honolulu, Hawai‘i – Aqua Hotels & Resorts (www.AquaResorts.com), a division of Aqua Hospitality, announced that the oceanfront Aqua Kaua‘i Beach Resort completed food and beverage makeovers, creating new dining experiences for kama‘āina and travelers visiting the island.

“Our dining venues have been upgraded and refreshed to maintain our competitive status on the island,” said David Sosner, General Manager. “A couple of small projects will be completed by fall but, to date; the changes have been well received by our customers, whose needs were top of mind at all times.”

The makeovers include:

Menu overhaul
Chef Mark Sassone was faced with the challenge of appealing to a wide age range as well the diverse international demographics of Aqua Kaua‘i Beach Resort guests. Using his creativity, he rose to the occasion, creating menus that include items ranging from home grown comfort foods to healthy options. See attachment for details.

Shutters Fireside Lounge
The six foot circular fire pit was added creating a cozy outdoor lounge for guests’ enjoyment during the day and evening.

Shutters Café
• New location and updated concept.
• Open from 6 am – 11 am daily.
• Fresh brewed coffees, espressos, cappuccino, lattes and teas with house-baked muffins and bagels, fruit yogurt parfaits and more.
• Grab and go breakfast sandwiches and burritos are also available.
• Executive lounge atmosphere with WiFi, selection of newspapers and four flat screen TV’s for anyone wanting their morning news, weather or sports fix.

Shutters Lounge
• New tables, chairs and bar stools will be installed by September.
• The popular nightly live entertainment schedule featuring local musicians remains unchanged.

Driftwood Bar & Grille
• Refinished counter tops at the bar and new driftwood artwork make the popular Driftwood Bar & Grill the perfect spot to watch sports on flat screen TVs or people watch at the pool.
• New signage was also installed.

Naupaka Terrace
This popular plantation-style restaurant which offers indoor and outdoor dining has been enhanced with art.
• Custom artwork glass, by Jules Cannon of Sun Solutions, has been installed throughout the restaurant – see photo. The panels add ambience and offer diners a bit of privacy.
• Long lost artwork found its way back to life after being stored away for more than 10 years. Yvonne Cheng’s batik pieces, originally commissioned in 1986 for the hotel’s opening, were thought to have been destroyed after a flood in the basement. The two pieces were bundled in a trash bag destined for the dumpster when Diana Tuazon, Director of Housekeeping, rescued the works. She took the trash bag home, carefully cleaned each piece and stored them away for years. When GM David Sosner recently mentioned wanting to see more Hawaiian art pieces on display in the restaurant, Tuazon happily took the batiks out from storage and brought them back to the resort.

Meetings and Events
Perfect for presentations and celebrations for groups of 25-500 persons, Aqua Kaua‘i Beach Resort offers a centralized and convenient location for any occasion including private beachside weddings, corporate meetings, training seminars, social and family gatherings.

Recently, the resort offered graduation and pool party packages that were enjoyed by many families and friends.

A favorite for many years because of its oceanfront setting, ample parking, excellent venues for large and small groups, good food, great prices and friendly team of caring employees, the recent makeovers have energized and refreshed the Aqua Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
